Melkors Speech to Feanor - by Jakob Weitemeyer

To Finwës son now Melkor came
He bowed to Feanör as if in shame.
Proud and mighty was that soul.
But yet it burned like smouldering coal
In him did Melkor see his tool
to His designs: This haughty fool!
If only his spirit could be set afire
hot it would burn, a funeral pyre!
and destroy the Bliss of Valinor,
in ruin lie its very core:
The Golden Tree and Silver Twin,
Tilperion and Laurelin.
To him did Melkor tell his lies
and Feanör listened through despise
though never he trusted Melkors mind
to His lies and ends he still was blind.

And Melkor said, "Behold the Gods!
These Kings and Queens to Elves are Lords
They shield you from the World, they say
but are the Firstborn weak then? Nay!
I say to you, my friend, beware!
To your protection they have no care.
Afraid they are of Elvish might
that from the World, now under night,
you would defy them for all to see
that elves where born strong and free.
A prophecy there was of old
long ere the time began, it told
of the second-born, the Deathdoomed race,
that soon from now the world would grace
and live apart from Elves and Gods
to rule all Arda as rightful Lords
A weaker race, the men will be
and easy to control, for see
to you the World was set aside
to own and rule. Instead you hide
in Valinor below watchful eyes
with eagles spying from the skies.
Who should rule the world cannot be known
when the Elves in prison has been thrown!"
