MOON LETTERS : POETRY
I Stand Alone - by Varda Elentari
Rue the day that I looked upon you from afar!
For when I first saw you, I gave you my heart.
But you did not know.
Often we met; I tried not to disguise
The deep love that I bore you- it shone in my eyes.
But you did not see.
Then, at last! You bestowed a great gift upon me:
Twas your love. But alas! You loved also the sea.
And you would not stay.
To Uinen you fled, and my heart became grim,
For this was a battle that I could not win.
But you could not choose.
Though you came back to me, I could not rise above,
For of two minds you were, and I fought for your love.
But you did not care.
So you left me once more; for the sea you did yearn.
Years passed, and I went to await your return.
But you did not come.
When at last you returned, at the turn of the tide,
You told me you would that I were at your side.
But you did not smile.
So I now let you go, for my heart becomes cold,
And though you are yet young, I too swiftly grow old.
I once gave you my heart, and to that I still hold,
But long has the deed to your true love been sold!
And doubtless, in time, there will be stories told
Of Aldarion, Uinen, and Erendis the bold,
Who valued your heart above all the worlds gold.
But the time has now come for our ties to unfold.
And I stand alone.
