MOON LETTERS : POETRY
A Sorrow And A Parting - by Elvasdottir
Because I did not keep the pact I made with you that day,
Because I would not let the love I felt for you hold sway,
Because I had to leave you when I wanted so to stay,
A sorrow and a parting were the price I had to pay.
Because I chose to heed the call of blood and birth and flee,
Because I would not soon return to your sweet company,
Because I could not board the ship and sail across the sea,
A sorrow and a parting were the portion left to me.
How long must I remain here on this grey and lonely shore?
How long will you remember me, O one that I adore?
Will lips and hands and hearts that loved be sundered evermore?
The sorrow of this parting leaves me empty as before.
I swear that I will come to you when livings burdens done;
Ill set my sail and steer my prow West toward the setting sun
And meet you on the stairs that lead up Túnas fiery hill,
And in Yavannas gardens fair of love well take our fill!
But if I fail to find my way across the Western Sea,
And on the ocean great and wide forever lost I be,
Then, Father, Savior, Angel, Man, when will my spirit mend?
O Teacher, Healer, Lover, Friend, where will my journey end?
